Lanzador de béisbol estadounidense. Ganó legendaria fama durante los muchos años en que lanzó en las Ligas Negras para innumerables equipos, entre ellos los Birmingham Black Barons, los Pittsburgh Crawfords, los Kansas City Monarchs y los New York Black Yankees. También hizo giras de exhibición y jugó en el Caribe durante los recesos de la temporada. Tenía cerca de 42 años cuando se le permitió finalmente, en 1948, jugar en las grandes ligas, poco después de que Jackie Robinson había derribado la barrera racial del béisbol. Entró en los Cleveland Indians –el jugador más viejo que debutó en las grandes ligas–, y en su primera temporada ayudó al equipo a ganar la Serie Mundial. Se retiró al concluir la temporada 1953. Lanzador diestro, alto, de 1,93 m (6 pies 4 pulg.) y muy flexible, Paige lanzaba a considerable velocidad y tenía un amplio dominio de las curvas lentas. Se calcula que ganó 2.000 de los 2.500 partidos que jugó durante sus casi 30 años de carrera. Entre los muchos y frecuentemente citados comentarios de Paige destaca el consejo: "No mires para atrás, quizá algo te esté alcanzando.
